How much money do we spend on food?

The Sunday Business Post recently ran a very interesting article on how much food costs relative to the whole household budget.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that spending on food currently accounts for about €1 in every €10 for a typical household.

According to the latest price statistics from the CSO, spending on food equates to 10.81 per cent of a typical household’s overall expenditure.

This means that, for every €100 spent, a sum of €10.81 was used to purchase food.

The article has some amusing facts such as spending on cheese has remained consistent for the last 50 years!
