210,000 people unable to pay essential bills

The Irish League of Credit Unions recently released the results of a disposable income survey amongst Irish adults.

The results are sad and somewhat shocking:

  • 735,000 (21%) of Irish Adults have an average of €70 left each month after essential bills are paid.
  • 45% of respondents state that they are unlikely to have money to save in the current economic climate.
  • Significant number of Irish people no longer see a future for themselves or their families in Ireland.

The last point is the one I feel is the worst indictment of our political class.

You can read more on the Irish League of Credit Union website and RTE News have a good feature on it too.
