Stop losing money up your chimney

It is estimated that between 10% and 30% of the heat in your house goes up the chimney. If your fireplace is not in use, then you could try blocking the chimney to stop this heat loss and save money on your heating bills.

There are some methods of doing this semi-permanently, such as the Chimney Cap which was invented by Alan Cluxton. These can be fitted by anyone who likes a bit of DIY.

If you want a less permanent method, you could try a Chimney Balloon which is exactly what is says – a specially designed balloon that is used in a chimney to stop cold winds and draughts coming down the chimney from outside and at the same time keep the heat in the room from escaping up the chimney.

Of course there are other ways of getting rid of your chimney, but we suggest you do not try the one below at home.
