It sucks. That feeling of despondency has been wafting around the workplace for weeks. People knew that the axe was going to fall and now it has. It has fallen on you.

Depending on your circumstances, this could be a welcome break, a
time to travel perhaps. Or it could be an endless array of bills,
parading away into the future with no obvious income to cover them.
But there are things that you can do…
- Find out what money you are entitled to by reading the Layperson's Brief Guide to the Redundancy Payments Scheme and use the redundancy calculator to work out your possible redundancy payment.
- Check to make sure that proper procedures were followed in making you redundant. You may have a legal case if the procedures were not followed properly.
- Make contact with helpful people who can talk you through your situation at http://www.redundancy.ie
- Find out your social welfare rights at http://www.redundancy.ie/employee/
- Start looking for your next job
And most importantly, redundancy can be a new beginning!
